The world’s largest live entertainment company. National publications and Hollywood studios. Financial and insurance industry giants. A Midwestern mom-and-pop store facing hundreds of claims from a chip-reading scam.

A representative selection of John Stephens’ clients speaks volumes about his practice and personality: He handles novel IP and media transactions, provides insurers with comprehensive coverage counsel, and (as a Certified Information Privacy Professional) he advises clients on data liability and breach-response practices. John also crafted a “soup-to-nuts” suite of legal services for live entertainment festivals and events, which has become the proven model for the most prominent companies in that field.

For over twenty years John has been riding the coming crests in emerging tech, new media, and the law — and his passion is counseling and protecting others, from the wavemakers to the individuals and small businesses caught up in the swell.

John’s home, Goldberg Segalla, is known as a powerhouse in complex commercial litigation and transactions, trusted trial defense and regulatory counsel for major manufacturers, boutique-style counsel in areas like professional liability and toxic torts and environmental law, and a source of sophisticated insurance and reinsurance solutions. All these things and more, GS is the fastest organically growing law firm in the U.S., as Law360 reported in 2017. As chair of the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice, vice chair of the Sports and Entertainment practice, and leader of the Los Angeles office and all west coast operations, John reflects the comprehensive capabilities and dynamic service GS clients across the nation expect.

Goldberg Segalla’s West Coast Growth Continues With Addition of Media and Entertainment Litigator Jordan G. Cohen

Goldberg Segalla‘s west coast capabilities have grown with the addition of associate Jordan G. Cohen to the firm’s Sports and Entertainment and Retail and Hospitality Practice Groups in Los Angeles.

Working closely with Sports and Entertainment Practice Group Vice Chair John F. Stephens (recognized in the 2018 L.A. Leaders in the Law), Jordan will focus his practice on media and entertainment defense litigation. With John, who heads all of Goldberg Segalla’s west coast operations, Jordan will counsel and represent media entities, national and worldwide entertainment and sports companies, magazines, television and radio stations, production companies, entertainment technology companies, computer technology companies, online content and software providers, and talent. Equipped with substantial deposition and trial experience, Jordan has represented both individuals and corporations in a wide variety of commercial and civil litigation. He also has significant experience in consumer rights and warranty law.

Jordan earned his bachelor’s at the University of California Santa Cruz and went on to attend the University of California Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, where he served as submissions editor for the Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal. Before graduating, he gained experience as a judicial extern with Magistrate Judge James Larson in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

In addition to his practice at Goldberg Segalla, Jordan serves as in-house counsel for Thank You For Coming, an experimental food and art space in Los Angeles. He also produced a feature-length documentary, I Think We’re Alone Now (2008), which was the official selection at several film festivals.
